Windows ME #1
Categories: [computers]
I installed Windows ME (the OS that was installed on my first computer) in DOSBox-X. Personalization is important if you want to feel at home with the technology you're using. Most operating systems these days just feel cold. Changing the wallpaper is often the only thing you can do. If you're really looking for change you can enable the high contrast theme. That's often the only option. macOS also lets you customize the mouse cursor colors (both border and fill color can be customized, very generous!).
Back then I would apply different themes daily. It amazed me how the desktop can be transformed. Icons, fonts, wallpaper, sounds and colors changed. It still amazes me today how much work went into all these little details. They really wanted people to love their operating system. Isn't it sad how all these themes were created to be used for just a few years until Windows XP came along? There are ways to still use these themes today, at least.
